Europex appoints new Secretary General and welcomes four new members

Brussels, 1 June 2015 | At a meeting in Belfast on 18 May 2015, the General Assembly of Europex appointed Christian Baer as Secretary General and added four new members to the Association.

The General Assembly approved Christian Baer as the new Secretary General of the Association. “The election follows a very competitive recruitment process”, says Massimo Ricci, Chairman of Europex. “Christian Baer has the qualifications, skills and drive to make an important contribution to the Association and its future development.” Baer, who has both substantial knowledge of the energy exchange business as well as of energy and financial regulation follows Manuel Coxe who has fulfilled the role of Secretary General for over six years and who left Europex in February. The new Secretary General will take up his office on 1 August 2015.

Furthermore, Europex unanimously voted in favour of adding APCS (Austria), CROPEX (Croatia), ELEXON (United Kingdom) and ESCO (Georgia) as new members of the Association. Europex now represents 24 members in total.

Ricci adds: “In line with its mission to represent all energy exchanges in Europe, Europex is pleased to welcome the new members whose values, strategic goals and scope of activities match with the principles of the Association. Europex will continue to encourage a regulatory environment, including energy policy and financial regulation, which stimulates exchange- based trading, thus increasing the transparency and the integrity of European wholesale energy markets. All Europex members are deeply committed to the common goal of liquid, transparent and efficient energy markets.”
