WG GM has been created by a decision of the Europex Steering Committee on 25 February 2009 with the aim to increase transparency and liquidity on the gas exchange markets. Since then, WG GM has been permanently broadening its range of activities and is now the centre of gas related activities of Europex.
As working group, we believe that gas trading on energy exchanges plays a key role to foster liberalised and liquid gas markets. Exchange markets are important sources of price signals and enable trading of standardised products with minimised counterparty risk.
We strive to shape the European regulatory framework to create a viable and strong gas market that can satisfy the demands of traders, costumers and consumers in the short and long run.
We perform a range of activities to make this happen. We are engaged in stakeholder dialogues and have established WGGM as a voice of energy exchanges in the regulatory discourse. To this end, we have shaped and contributed i.a. to the following topics:
- Review of the European Gas Target Model.
- Development of Network Codes.
- Regular stakeholder involvement e.g. (EC, EP, ACER, ENTSOG).
- Participation in consultations, drafting of position papers.
- Monitoring of markets.
WG GM consist of 42 members from 20 exchanges. Since 2014, Frederick Bernthaler (CEGH) is Head of the WG.
