Today, Europex together with 11 other associations, co-signed a joint industry statement calling on the European Commission to remove barriers preventing Ireland’s participation in cross-border trade of renewable gases.
The statement highlights concerns over the exclusion of third countries, including the United Kingdom, from the Union Database (UDB), which risks creating unjustified restrictions within the EU internal energy market, particularly for Ireland due to its indirect gas connection to continental Europe through the UK.
The co-signatories urge the Commission to recognise Ireland as part of the EU interconnected gas grid and enable cross-border trade of sustainable renewable gases under appropriate sustainability and traceability safeguards.
