Tom Darell
Tom Darell is the Chief Executive Officer of the European Power Exchange Nord Pool.
Nord Pool was the world’s first power exchange when it was started in Norway in 1993. Since then, Nord Pool has continued to shape coupled power trading in Europe and successively grown into a pan-European power exchange, operating the physical power market for Day ahead and Intraday in 16 European countries. Since 2020 Nord Pool has been majority owned by Euronext.
Tom joined Nord Pool as Chief Executive Officer in April 2022 as a highly accomplished executive with a proven track record of leading organizations with diverse cultures. With his extensive experience in the energy and telecommunications industries, he has successfully navigated the complexities of international business and demonstrated trusted leadership skills.
Tom was previously Executive Vice President for Energy in Volue, with overall responsibility for the power trading business, market analysis and forecasting business and the power production optimization and trading software business.
Prior to this, he held the position of Executive Vice President for Energy in Powel. His experience extends beyond the energy industry. He served as the Managing Director of Avaya in Oslo and was a Partner at Bene Agere Nordic. He also held various positions at Ericsson, including Vice President and Head of Telecom Software for Southeast Asia & Pacific across Kuala Lumpur, Stockholm and Oslo.
Tom’s academic background includes an MBA from IESE Business School, where he graduated in the top 15% of his class. He also participated in an MBA exchange program at Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, further enhancing his global perspective. Additionally, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Oregon.
Tom’s ability to understand and adapt to different cultures is further exemplified by his proficiency in multiple languages. He is a native Norwegian speaker, fluent in Swedish, Danish, and English. Additionally, he possesses a good understanding of Spanish.
