Regulation European Climate Law

The European Climate Law enshrines into law the EU’s 2050 climate neutrality objective and the intermediate 2030 target of at least 55% net GHG reduction. It provides a legal framework for long-term climate governance. The text was adopted in June 2021.

It sets out rules on:

  • Binding climate neutrality by 2050.
  • Intermediate 2030 GHG reduction target (at least 55% net).
  • Obligation for consistency across all EU legislative proposals.
  • Role of the European Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change.
