CEEGEX — Central Eastern European Gas Exchange

Central Eastern European Gas Exchange Ltd. (CEEGEX) is the operator of the organized Hungarian natural gas market. The company is currently jointly owned by FGSZ Ltd. (holding a 51% stake) and MAVIR Ltd. (with a 49% share).
CEEGEX’s core mission is to operate a liquid and transparent regional gas market that adheres to leading international standards, providing safe, reliable, and long-term solutions for its partners while making full use of Hungary’s existing infrastructure.
CEEGEX aims to leverage Hungary’s strategic geographical position and its current and planned cross-border capacities to foster regional cooperation across Central and Eastern Europe.
Since 2015, CEEGEX has also operated as a trading platform under the BAL NC framework, offering a regulated and secure environment for natural gas balancing trades.
CEEGEX uses the Trayport GlobalVision trading system, allowing its members to trade day-ahead, within-day, next-hour, and locational products on a highly efficient and well-established platform—also widely used by Western European exchanges.
In March 2023, CEEGEX launched CEEREP, an end-of-day activity-based index designed to reflect the closing status of the Hungarian gas market (MGP) each business day.
In February 2024, the exchange introduced the White Certificate Market under Hungary’s Energy Efficiency Obligation Scheme, creating a marketplace for trading energy savings obligations. This initiative represents a significant step in expanding CEEGEX’s role beyond gas trading, further supporting national sustainability and regulatory objectives.
