Short-term Electricity Market Operator – OKTE, a.s. started its activities on 1st January 2011. OKTE, a.s. was established as a subsidiary of Slovak Transmission System Operator Slovenská elektrizačná prenosová sústava, a.s. (SEPS, a.s.), which remains its only shareholder. Within the Slovak electricity market, OKTE, a.s. is classified by the Energy Act as an entity subjected to regulation by the Regulatory Office for Network Industries (RONI), the Slovak NRA. It is authorised to act as a Short-term Electricity Market Operator in the Slovak Republic and on 30 November 2015, it was designated by the Slovak Regulatory Office for Network Industries (RONI) as a Nominated Electricity Market Operator (NEMO) for performing tasks related to single day-ahead and single intraday market coupling processes.
OKTE, a.s. shall treat all electricity market participants based on open, transparent and non-discriminatory approach when providing services. The scope of OKTE’s activities is largely defined by international and national legal documents. The company organises and evaluates the organised short-term cross-border electricity market and provides clearing of imbalances in the Slovak Republic. Furthermore, OKTE, a.s. is currently in the process of extending the scope of its activities, especially related to the renewable energy support scheme and trading of guarantees of origin.
Moreover, OKTE, a.s. actively cooperates with multiple national actors and institutions, namely the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic, RONI, SEPS, a.s., distribution systems operators as well as other market participants. In addition to the national scope of cooperation, OKTE, a.s. is also an active member of the European association of exchanges and market organisers Europex since 22nd November 2011.
Within this framework, OKTE, a.s., together with its partners, strives for the assertion of interests of energy exchanges and market organisers in the European Union. Among these, the increase of economic competition, establishment of price transparency and dealing with issues covering the establishment of a single European market are of high importance.
