We are looking for an experienced, knowledgeable and strategically minded Senior Policy Adviser to join the Europex Secretariat in Brussels on a full-time basis. Reporting directly to the Secretary General, the successful candidate will support Europex’s policy and advocacy work across its Working Groups and Task Forces and engage on a broad range of EU policy and regulatory developments affecting wholesale energy, environmental and related financial markets.
Responsibilities and tasks
- Proactively follow and engage in EU policy and regulatory developments relevant to Europex members, helping to identify priorities, shape timely responses and guide the Secretariat and members on effective action.
- Coordinate and support the work of multiple Working Groups and Task Forces, ensuring alignment with Europex’s strategic priorities and fostering consensus among members on policy positions.
- Help ensure consistency, quality and strategic coherence across Europex’s policy activities and written outputs.
- Lead and contribute to the drafting of position papers, consultation responses, briefings, presentations and speaking points to support effective policy advocacy.
- Support and help coordinate advocacy activities with European institutions, national ministries, regulators and other stakeholder bodies, including the European Commission, the European Parliament, ACER, ESMA and national authorities.
- Represent Europex in meetings, workshops and stakeholder events, and contribute to advancing the association’s policy objectives in external fora.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with policymakers, regulators, members, associations and industry peers.
- Provide guidance and share knowledge and experience with other Policy Advisers within the Secretariat.
- Support the preparation and coordination of internal meetings and events, including Working Group meetings, Board meetings and General Assemblies.
Candidate profile
- A university degree in a relevant field such as economics, energy, finance, law, political science, European studies or a related discipline.
- At least six years of relevant professional experience in EU policy, energy markets, financial regulation, public affairs or related fields.
- Strong understanding of EU institutions, legislative processes and the interaction between energy, environmental and financial regulation.
- Proven ability to contribute to policy development and engage confidently with complex stakeholder discussions in a European context.
- Strong analytical and drafting skills, with the ability to translate complex technical and regulatory issues into clear and actionable policy recommendations.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English. Additional European languages are an advantage.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to represent the association credibly in meetings with policymakers, regulators and stakeholders.
- A collaborative and mature working style, with the ability to support cross-functional and multi-stakeholder initiatives effectively.
- High level of professional integrity, sound judgement and discretion in sensitive policy and regulatory discussions.
- Highly organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple workstreams in parallel.
- Advanced proficiency in standard office software and digital collaboration tools.
