We are seeking an experienced, knowledgeable and strategically minded Policy Director with an established network of stakeholder contacts to guide Europex’s advocacy and policy development across the European energy and financial regulatory landscape. Based in Brussels, the Policy Director will report to the Secretary General and work closely with the Working Groups and Task Forces. This senior role offers high internal and external visibility, with responsibility for shaping Europex’s policy agenda, building consensus among members and representing the association in institutional, stakeholder and public fora – providing a unique opportunity to influence European policy making and contribute to the evolution of energy and financial markets in Europe.
Responsibilities and tasks
- Proactively follow and engage in EU policy and regulatory developments in energy commodity markets, driving timely strategic responses and guiding the Secretariat and members on effective actions.
- Coordinate and support the work of multiple Working Groups and Task Forces, ensuring alignment with Europex’s strategic priorities and fostering consensus among members on policy positions.
- Oversee and contribute to the drafting of position papers, consultation responses, presentations and speaking points to support effective policy advocacy.
- Represent Europex in high-level meetings and coordinate advocacy initiatives with European institutions, national ministries, regulators and other stakeholder bodies to advance the association’s policy objectives.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with policymakers, regulators and industry peers.
- Provide guidance and share knowledge and experience with Europex Policy Advisers.
Candidate profile
- Bring at least 10 years of relevant experience in EU policy, energy markets, financial regulation or related fields, with a proven record of leadership and tangible impact.
- Apply a deep understanding of EU institutions, legislative processes and the interplay between energy and financial regulation.
- Influence policy outcomes and lead complex stakeholder negotiations with confidence and credibility.
- Combine strategic thinking with sharp analytical and drafting skills to drive policy development.
- Communicate exceptionally in English, both written and verbal, with additional EU languages an advantage.
- Represent the organisation with authority in high-level political, regulatory and industry fora.
- Lead collaboratively, managing cross-functional or multi-stakeholder initiatives effectively.
- Translate complex technical issues into clear, actionable policy recommendations.
- Operate with professional maturity, integrity and discretion in politically sensitive environments.
- Stay highly organised, with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
- Utilise advanced proficiency in standard office software and IT tools to support impactful work.
